I hate Chase Credit

Today I decided to pay off my credit card balance, in full, including the interest they’d be charging since the last billing cycle. I called the automated system, spoke to someone to get the interest I’d be charged through tomorrow, and went back to the automated system to pay the full amount. There’s a problem with that. The automated system wouldn’t take the full payment, no, not today, you can only pay the amount you owe today. If you’d like to pay off the full amount including the interest you have to pay an extra $14.00 fee.

Talk about bending you over at every turn. An extra fee because you’re being a responsible citizen and paying the amount in full? I hope this post raises to the top of Google searches for Chase Credit Card.

Chase, screw you. I hope all your leadership rot in hell. Thanks for nothing, you bunch of freaking shysters.

I’ll be closing down my Chase Banking account as well, not that it matters to you, but it matters to me. I just wanted to do business together, I wanted to do the right thing and you won’t let me, so I’ll just take my business elsewhere.

  1. But Rob, “The Right Thing” is exactly what they DONT want you to do… They WANT you to carry a balance…

  2. Yeah, I know.

We’ll be closing that account, we’re done with them, I won’t go back to them.

I feel much better now. :-)

Bank of America, on the other hand, was more than happy to calculate what my interest would be, add it to the total, and accept a payment for that amount. Done. That’s what I call good business, and the guy even said “Have a great day” when we were done.

  3. I had a similar experience with Chase. I had two cards with no balance, but there was some interest charges. They kept sending bills with 0 balance, but then would send overdue notices for the interest–but only listed the new interest amount, not the total accumulated interest. So basically I was paying off what they’d say was due, but was still accumulating interest. This went on for a few months. Finally I called them and yelled at them to the point I got ahold of the queen customer service nazi, paid them and got them closed on the spot.

Now we live totally off the ATM and Costco Amex.

  4. We’re working toward a life without credit cards. In fact, we owe nothing, except this stupid balance we’ll have with Chase, then everything is getting closed down. Cash only baby, it’s the way to go.
