Keep out of Facebook’s business

AHHHHHH!CNN: “Washington (CNN) — Four Democratic senators called on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday to reconsider the recent changes in its privacy settings and asked the Federal Trade Commission to streamline guidelines regarding privacy on all social networks.” – Oy. That’s the first word that popped into my head. Why does the government need to get involved with this? If you don’t like Facebook’s terms and conditions, or feel you don’t understand their privacy policy, or that it’s too liberal with your data, here’s an idea.

DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT.

Now Senators don’t have to feel the need to get involved.

Problem solved.

You’re welcome.

  1. Ugh, you tricked me into coming to this ugly site again with your shortened link… However I agree.

I also don’t like what I see with the Senate questioning Goldman Sachs for being successful in trending the housing market collapsing and actually making a profit. They are a financial institution, they didn’t cause the market to collapse. If they were able to see it coming why didn’t regulators THEN see it coming as well.

  2. I hope this all make sense, is 5:30 am to early to be commenting on blogs? lol

I think the issue is coming up because facebook is a private company and has massive amounts of private information about all their users. They not only have information about where a user lives, works, who they know etc… but also their online browsing habits on facebook.com and, with the new facebook connect and like programs, off of facebook.com.

The issue is with all these new features sharing more and enhanced privacy on facebook is slowly becoming opt-out, with a cumbersome process that most users wont even bother to go through. It’s not only that you can choose to share information you have to go in an specifically state that your friends can not share information about you as well.

I don’t think facebook is doing it to be evil, they are trying to monetize it. But facebook has become an establishment on the internet and is being incorporated more and more across the web as a way to interact with other sites, so I believe its in the best interest for this small panel to probe facebook a little to give users more privacy by default, or at least make it less cumbersome to change these settings. Have you been in the facebook account settings area? It’s a UI nightmare.

(I wont get into the goldman sachs comment above, but those people are the slime of the earth and were a large part of why the housing market crashed)
