James,

I totally get that. As I was creating the post I realized how easy it is for non-techies to have a presence on the web. It's a no brainer.

It's a great distribution mechanism.

On the other hand - I started a podcast devoted to the Skyrim game recently. There is simply no way we could have built up the listener community without Facebook. Telling me to use forum software is not an answer; no one wants to register for the umpteenth website.

Yes, they announced this a few months ago. Very irritating. See this post -- it lists some of their other dodgy practices: http://dashes.com/anil/2011/11/facebook-is-gaslighting-the-web.html

I have no love of Santorum, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. The emptying of the mental hospitals in the 70's put a lot of people on the street who actually do fit that description. Probably not what he had in mind, but true nevertheless

Hmm, I think Facebook is pretty well laid out. It's easy to navigate, contains an truck load of information, creates easy conversations, utilizes a simple photo system and so on. Compared to many websites I've used I think Facebook is quite nice. It understand that it's not the minimalistic look you like, but I don't think it's anywhere near being a "giant disaster". I find it easy to use considering the amount of stuff that goes on within this particular SM platform.

The funny thing is, standardized testing isn't the biggest problem. A lot of school - right through high school - is inane process following. Kids need a specific size notebook (often a specific color) for each class. They have to file massive amounts of paper specifying that they've done this or that task. At least half of school is now stupid process; I suspect that many of us who graduated in the late 70's and early 80's couldn't tolerate the modern system. What we need is fewer anal types teaching and designing teaching rules. The tests are the very, very least of our problems....

I like the sound of it as well, how should/could we go about making it happen?

I don't have the time to invest in it.

Shannon, I completely agree with you, I think. I think Fresno should leave the Fulton Mall alone and focus on getting some fairly large employers to move downtown.

When I worked at Pelco I always thought it would've been really cool for Pelco to take the lead and move a group of us downtown.

I don't know much about Ikea, but that could be good, I suppose?

A great mix of nine to five office workers, restaurants, and shopping is what's needed. Fresno needs to find a way to make that attractive to companies. Tax breaks maybe?

The problem with downtown Fresno has NOTHING to do with the Fulton Mall. This is actually the only cool thing about the area. What they need are some anchor destinations and removal of all of the parking meters. Something big would draw other businesses into downtown...maybe an IKEA...? The City leaders need to develop (or hire someone with) some imagination!!
